Let’s talk about lotions! Do you or your family members love using lotions as much as we do? My own family uses it up at the speed of lightning due to very dry skin. The store bought ones can be expensive and they usually contain nasty chemicals that I can not even pronounce. You will love this smooth and silky do it yourself lotion and it only takes only a few minutes to make.

Did you know that making homemade lotion that is natural and moisturizing is easy to make? You can make your own lotion with ingredients that you have actually heard of and can pronounce! The homemade lotion is also a great gift idea!

I am a lover of Do It Yourself, and most of my personal hygiene products are homemade. Since a very young age, I have always been on a mad mission to detoxify my personal hygiene products. It is fun to make and my kids love participating in the creation of my homemade products. They are often my little helpers!

Let’s take a look at the ingredients that I use for my homemade lotions:

Pure Shea Butter:

Shea butter is a wonderful ingredient. It is well known for smoothing the skin, moisturizing, and reducing inflammation.

Pure Coconut Oil:

I am a huge fan of coconut oil and use it for practically all of my homemade hygiene products. It acts as a moisturizer, without clogging your pores.

Beeswax Pastilles:

One of the great things about beeswax is it provides protection against irritants while still allowing the skin to breathe. Beeswax also acts as an anti-inflammatory,  is antibacterial and antiviral, and it is useful in treating skin irritations.

Essential Oils:

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years. And for good reason! Did you know that they have medicinal and health purposes? They are also known to have antidepressant, stimulating, detoxifying, antibacterial, antiviral and calming properties.  Essential oils are also recognized as natural and safe for a number of health concerns.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Shea Butter (you can soften it in a microwave or over boiling water in a glass bowl).
  • 1 cup of pure coconut oil.
  • 1-4 melted beeswax pastilles.
  • 50-95 drops of your favourite essential oil.

Your ingredients can be found in most health food stores or can be ordered online. I store my homemade lotion in glass jars.

Instructions:

  • Place all of the ingredients in a mixer or a large bowl. Beat until it softens.
  • Transfer to glass storage containers.
